Some good news for GamArch in the form of a grant from the local Community Turbine fund bit.ly/36Ri6vJ to cover final costs of an info board for our Saxon re-interment & Heritage Project. More info on our blog bit.ly/2NA346b

When fieldwalking we occasionally recover Meso worked flints & wonder about the people making & using them. This reconstruction of a Meso burial bit.ly/37pi9iu is particularly poignant in that she may represent one of the last Scando hunter/gatherers. Startling stuff.

GamArch's 1st #FridayLiDAR offering is of our much cherished local wood here at Gamlingay. Tramped by the likes of Darwin & the late Oliver Rackham in their day, we now bumble around there investigating stuff. Bing imagery, 1m Defra DTM tile, slope shade in Global Mapper.

Local to us is Clopton, a DMV & scheduled monument. Fieldwalking land immediately west of Clopton, CAFG is reporting bit.ly/33r9w3L shedloads of #medieval pot finds. Highly likely, then, the DMV extends some way beyond the scheduled site area.

Only seen from the road so far,our #FridayLiDAR shows this spot to be a promising place for a fieldwalk & rootle around. Massively exaggerated vertical scale: that rounded berm thingy is not as obvious as lidar makes out. Clockwise views from road, map, south, north. Im DTM tile

Being newbs here, not too sure of Twittersphere etiquette but it can't hurt to say thank you to the folks who've encouraged us with their messages, likes and follows and things. Thank you!

This is the life eh, wot? Some of us helped out a neighbouring group with fieldwalking Sunday morn. Cold claggy land but we soon warmed as the sun climbed higher. Quite a bit of #Medieval pot about, some Iron Age too.

This fine day some of us ended up at Gannocks Castle, Beds, purportedly a Viking stopover before becoming a Medieval manor. Splendid moats! Chin high in nettles in Summer, bald as a coot inside right now so a good day to visit. Pic of interesting mound, base of a lookout tower?

Some years ago now James Dilley Dr. James Dilley, dressed in animal skins, demonstrated flint knapping at a Gamlingay event. The kids dubbed him 'the Caveman' and still fondly remember him. Much good stuff to be found on his website eg this refitting page bit.ly/2GZY1I9

Today’s #FridayFind really had to have a #Valentines theme, so here’s a quaint little greeting card from the 1930s, complete with questionable rhyme... #ValentinesDay #Valentines2020 #Poet

It's a Google Earth pic but we were pleased to find these cropmarks on getmapping imagery. Woodbank is pre-1066 according to Rackham & it'd be good to fathom out if these ditches(?) run under the banks or abut them, what their full extent is, fieldwalk the land there etc.

An endlessly absorbing topic and free entry to the talk IIRC, give a shout if you're local to us & need a lift & we'll see what we can do.
