Our charity exists to save lives at sea. Our mission is to save every one. Our lifesavers are compelled to help those in need without judgement of how they came to be in the water. They have done so since the RNLI was founded in 1824 and this will always be our ethos.

The Chief Executive of the RNLI, Mark Dowie, has responded to the criticism that lifeboat crews have received for rescuing migrants in the Channel: ‘We do not judge those we rescue – where we believe there is a risk to life at sea, we will always launch.’

As the RNLI hits back over criticism of rescuing migrants at sea, the Clandestine Channel Threat Commander, Dan O’Mahoney, says: ‘We are proud to work alongside RNLI crews in their vital work to protect lives at sea.’
