4. Avoid advise from people who haven't built real businesses (no matter how cute it sounds)...you just can't give what you don't have. 5. Prove all things. 6. Beware of YOU, you're your greatest asset and your greatest threat. 7. Be honest with yourself and embrace the truth.

Fully African businesses that have been operating for years, watching a 3-month old, horrible-idea-start-up, with yt co-founders eat all the VC money 😂😂😂

Founders can leverage local communities to build their products. There are people thinking like you about the problem and are willing to go the extra mile for you. I think the corporate cool version especially in Africa does not work if one wants to make the real money.

As an African founder speak in native language if you have to to your customers. Unless there is a bond, there is no business. Tech has made people think that you can overcome interacting with people.

An employee came to a client engagement drunk, I was shocked, to say the least. Like how dare you?Honestly, hiring is a great concern for founders. It's a lesson you learn as you move. That is the worst part. I have to fire a whole team next week it's not fun but its real.

I realised a lot of challenges in how we think about business in Africa is what makes us not succeed. I have cured this problem for myself by actually taking my reality as fact and not arguing with how things are. Work with what you are dealt with as an entrepreneur. You'll move.

Acceleration hubs in Africa will tell you your pitch deck is the reason you are not raising funding. Cut the crap just tell me you don't trust I can pull this off and get done with it. Don't demoralise founders that are already beaten down by the realities of a harsh market.

Its so absurd that you're supposed to have a 'white' mindset when building a startup yet you building for Africa. It more sad because that is the only way to get a VC cheque or get into a reputable program.

If you think about it, VC could be neo-colonialism, you a local founder comes up with an idea to solve a problem in your community, then they invest after they see good traction and then once you scale and make millions money goes back to the West. How can we retain wealth here.

The local African market is such a good way to get an MBA. Solve a problem in the informal sector and you will understand why African consumers are interesting.
