My first successful take of 'Skinner' mulberry onto nematode tolerant rootstock was grafted April 30, looking good on May 27. Now I'll be able to see how this promising variety does planted out in the ground here. #Skinnermulberry #Moraceae

Yellow jaboticaba, Myrciaria glazioviana, 1st fruiting at my place. A bit undersized due to being on a poorly-watered plant in a 15-gal pot. Scant flesh has a nice apricot taste, skin has #Myrtaceae resin-y flavors. #Myrciariaglazioviana #cabelluda #cabeludinha

For some reason, the loquat trees have been ripening occasional fruits into summer this year, long past their normal peak season in March. I'd like to figure out how to get them to do more off-season summer fruiting. #loquat #Rosaceae

Not sure of this hawthorn's exact species, maybe Crataegus flava. Despite fruits being small, seedy, & visually unattractive, the scant bit of flesh has a surprisingly good flavor - sweet/tart, with hints of apple, pear, maybe even cherry. #Crataegus #Rosaceae

'Del Rio' avocado harvest is accelerating, about a month later than last year. Blemishes are common on 'Del Rio' fruits. I cut any bad spots off, the rest tastes great. But it does mean that 'Del Rio' is better suited for home gardens than as a commercial crop. #avocado

Could Ficus pumila function as a dwarfing rootstock? This fig (probably Southern Brown Turkey) is several years old, grafted on F pumila, and it's fruiting heavily at just one foot (30 cm) tall. I'm going to try more fig grafts onto this species. #fig #Moraceae #Ficuspumila

First fruits of the year have been ripening recently on Cereus repandus. So far most fruit production has been on the first clone I acquired, which I believe came from Don Knight in Tampa. Other varieties look like they'll be producing soon. #Cereusrepandus #Cactaceae

August is Cattley guava season here. Very productive, and good flavor - although they lack the heavenly aroma of some tropical guavas. #Psidiumcattleyanum #Myrtaceae

First fruit has ripened on the 'Ichi Ki Kei Jiro' persimmon tree. We're not even at the middle of August yet. #Ebenaceae #kaki #persimmon

Brogden avocados are starting to drop from the tree. Every day I climb the tree and give it a shake. The ones that drop ripen up within a few days. #avocado #Brogdenavocado #avocadoharvest

'Ponkan' tangerines are ripe & delicious already. Normally I'm not eating tangerines till mid December, when 'Sunburst' starts to ripen. This variety extends the season by a full two months.

First crop of 'Ichi Ki Kei Jiro' Asian persimmons. I'm very impressed with this cultivar, a nonastringent type with excellent tasting fruits on a small (9ft/3m) tree. Flavor is best when fruits turn a deep orange on the tree. I plan to graft more of these. #fruit #persimmon

Loquats are setting fruit early. Normally flowering starts in Aug, but don't set fruit till Dec. This year many cvrs were setting fruit in Oct. I don't know what factors trigger fruit set. This year we might get ripe loquats by Christmas. #loquat
