Each and every one of us with a platform has a responsibility to correct others on the truth about asylum seekers claiming benefits and free homes. They can’t. They receive just £49 a week or £9 if given food. Only if and when they get refugee status can they claim or get a job.

The Home Office’s chaos even under a new government knows no bounds. Today a vulnerable asylum-seeking woman with her new baby travels 4 hours from London to Cardiff for her asylum interview. As she arrives into Cardiff, Home Office call her: “actually the interview is cancelled”

It’s astonishing that the Prime Minister still refuses to introduce safe routes for refugees. And even more so this week, when we’ve had the deadliest disaster in the Channel this year, with children, a pregnant woman and many others dying utterly needlessly.
