Both female and male songbirds sing, but female song is relatively ignored. Help us document female bird songs through this NSF and EU H2020 funded project!

#lyrebirds are the best, but fairy wrens are pretty cool too! Bonnie and Clyde live in our apple tree and Bonnie is quite the songstress - and feisty to boot! A lovely example of female song Female Bird Song Fairywren Project 😊

They also face conservation challenges in winter, but with a bias- females are losing double the amount of habitat that males are. Efforts such as Female Bird Song and #Galbatross Project are bringing attention to overlooked female birds audubon.org/magazine/sprin…

I’m very excited about this game. Match the male #birds with their females. That’s right - you have to know about both sexes. Might there be a metaphor there for ornithology in general🤔?

Our article on #Parrot vocal mimicry is out today in Scientific Reports! We'll celebrate by summarizing results each day this week. To begin. . . what species learns the most human sounds? Grey Parrot, of course. Article:rdcu.be/c00D1 Survey: bit.ly/2S7nx3K

Next #Parrot result. . . this one is a puzzle. Why did we have so many extra males in the data-set? Perhaps because they were actually females. These graphs are telling. Our takeaway: When a parrot's sex is uncertain, people tend to assume it's male.

How have we studied female bird song? Does female song function the same way as male song? Sometimes. . . Congratulations to Cristina Barros for summarizing the literature on this topic with Karina Sanchez, PhD authors.elsevier.com/c/1jczNmjM6FvO
