Enjoying the #sEARSworkshop2023 in Malawi this week. Thanks for supporting this event U.S. National Science Foundation GeoPRISMS. Geosciences at VT Virginia Tech Science #DRIAR @fracturedfola Jack Williams @faulty-jack.bsky.social
The fantastic Active Fault and Seismogenic Source Databases produced by the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) project PREPARE (Jack Williams @faulty-jack.bsky.social Luke Wedmore Ake Fagereng , University of Bristol Earth Sciences, Cardiff School of Earth & Environmental Sciences and most importantly, Malawi) are now available through COMET Datasets & Services too.
Lots of fractures, fluid flow, and geothermal energy to get excited about in next week's department seminar by Dr Cécile Massiot (GNS Science Te Pū Ao)! This talk will take place at 1 pm on Tuesday 26th September on Zoom and in the Benson Common Room
Fantastic to see this review on pre-existing structures in rifts brilliantly led by Anindita Samsu published 😃Definitely worth a read by anyone working on continental rifts; there’s far more to ‘structural inheritance’ than frictional reactivation!
Thank you LINZ Data Service for this awesome new Southland #lidar 😍😍😍 The Tin Hut fault scarp in the Takitimu Mountains looks stunning (here compared to aerial photo from Lloyd Homer GNS Science Te Pū Ao)
I had an excellent time last week with 3rd year students Otago Geology in the Catlins in southern NZ 😎. They all did a great job learning how to plot structural data on stereonets 👍
Looking forward to giving the next ThirstForKnowledge talk on our earthquake hazards in Ōtepoti Dunedin on 26th March! This will form part of a series of events to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 'Dunedin Earthquake' with otagocdem Caroline Orchiston Otago Geology
🔔 ON TOMORROW! 9 April in Ōtepoti Dunedin: 🎗️ Commemorating 50 Years Since the Dunedin Earthquake - Public Event A free, public event will be held in the Hutton Theatre at the Otago Museum, 6 - 8pm, Tues, 9 April 2024. cc Caroline Orchiston GNS Science Te Pū Ao Dunedin City Council @DnEmergency
5 years later, but we finally have a paper to show for our Uganda fieldwork 😅 Lots of cool stuff about how magmatism can rapidly change fault networks in continental rifts 👇👇👇 sciencedirect.com/science/articl… Luke Wedmore Juliet Biggs Ake Fagereng

I'm always surprised by how many researchers aren't aware about the true costs of academic publishing 🤨 Fortunately, in earth sciences, there is a better way!! @WeAreTektonika Seismica Volcanica Sedimentologika Geomorphica
