Very happy to share our GSNZ article on Diamond Open Access Journals. This was originally published in the GSNZ July Newsletter, and thanks to them for allowing us to post this 👍 As universities in NZ face a funding crisis, surely #DOAJ have never been so important!

Excellent article!! Though I think the challenge remains in getting the message to prospective students about the value of a geosciences degree ....probably also worth a ready by university management before they cut said geoscience departments 🙈

Lots of fractures, fluid flow, and geothermal energy to get excited about in next week's department seminar by Dr Cécile Massiot (GNS Science Te Pū Ao)! This talk will take place at 1 pm on Tuesday 26th September on Zoom and in the Benson Common Room

Fantastic to see this review on pre-existing structures in rifts brilliantly led by Anindita Samsu published 😃Definitely worth a read by anyone working on continental rifts; there’s far more to ‘structural inheritance’ than frictional reactivation!

Great to see our new seismic risk model for Malawi published. By integrating many datasets collected with the PREPARE project, this model can help decision makers with mitigating risk in this seismically vulnerable region #resilienceforall

Thank you LINZ Data Service for this awesome new Southland #lidar 😍😍😍 The Tin Hut fault scarp in the Takitimu Mountains looks stunning (here compared to aerial photo from Lloyd Homer GNS Science Te Pū Ao)

I had an excellent time last week with 3rd year students Otago Geology in the Catlins in southern NZ 😎. They all did a great job learning how to plot structural data on stereonets 👍

Check out this awesome video by Rhys Latton for the 50th anniversary of the 'Dunedin Earthquake' 👇👇👇 vimeo.com/921866739/c42b… A great reminder of the need to prepare for future earthquakes.... even in "low seismicity" regions Caroline Orchiston otagocdem

5 years later, but we finally have a paper to show for our Uganda fieldwork 😅 Lots of cool stuff about how magmatism can rapidly change fault networks in continental rifts 👇👇👇 sciencedirect.com/science/articl… Luke Wedmore Juliet Biggs Ake Fagereng

I'm always surprised by how many researchers aren't aware about the true costs of academic publishing 🤨 Fortunately, in earth sciences, there is a better way!! @WeAreTektonika Seismica Volcanica Sedimentologika Geomorphica

While the first paleoseismic trench in Québec might not have hit fault gold, Gourdeau et al. report the challenges and pathways for future work in this intraplate seismic zone. Read it here: doi.org/10.26443/seism…
