Just completed a translation task on #COVID19 as a volunteer with Translators without Borders (TWB) #languagematters.
The suggestions of ‘Su là là’ from my sister-in-law or ‘Sue-perb Translations’ from Hayley Reynolds weren't quite the image I was hoping for when trying to decide on my freelance translation business brand that incorporated my name or areas of specialism!
Really informative presentation from Alina Cincan this morning on ‘Quality Assurance and Quality Control in Translation’ – full of tips, tricks, and tools as promised in the title! I’m off to write my personal QA checklist… #CIOL #CPD
My ITI French Network Translation Skills Mentoring Scheme with Peter Cummings MITI officially finished yesterday, although I will never finish putting Peter’s advice and suggestions into practice. #ITICommunity
I would like to present my personal 2021 ITI Bulletin Awards🏆! This week’s award goes to ITI Japanese Network's Wendy Uchimura and Tony McNicol for their article ‘Words for a time of disaster’ which made me understand a natural disaster far better than international media coverage.
My next personal 2021 ITI Bulletin Award 🏆goes to Chris Durban and @TimG_translator's article ‘Stand and deliver’ for reinforcing the benefits of translation slams for attendees like me, providing participant perspectives and also insightful observations on human nature.
My next personal 2021 ITI Bulletin Award 🏆goes to Holly-Anne Whyte MITI MCIL CL's article 'Love story’ for actually making a difference to my social media approach. My favourite line is ‘I won’t say it will be happily ever after, though. (They do say you have to work at a relationship…)’!
My next personal 2021 ITI Bulletin Award 🏆 goes to Helen Robertson's ‘The power of the portfolio’ proposing translators' skill sets should equate to ‘expertise rather than specialisation’ and we should ‘cultivate depth in at least one area but also breadth in several others’👍.
My final personal 2021 ITI Bulletin Award 🏆 goes to Oliver Dirs for the best idea 💡 for my Christmas 🎄 list 📝: 'Good Words Fast' (a new thesaurus for translators into English). I can’t wait to see if I receive this 🎁 and to put it to use when translating in 2022!
