Hurricane #Melissa has just been upgraded to 160kt/892mb. This ties it for the 2nd fastest wind speeds recorded in the Atlantic, and ties it for 3rd in terms of lowest pressure.

Hurricane #Melissa makes landfall in Jamaica as a powerful Category 5 hurricane with 160kt (185mph) winds and 892mb pressure. This is the strongest landfall ever in the Atlantic, in terms of both windspeeds (tied with Labor Day and Dorian) and pressure (tied with Labor Day).

#Kalmaegi has formed in the western pacific. The storm may intensify into a decently strong #Typhoon before landfall in the Philippines. Afterwards, it may reach a secondary peak in the South China Sea.

#typhoon #Kalmaegi is now nearing landfall in the #Philippines as a moderately strong 80t typhoon. Satellite shows a classic "shrimp" appearance, and a second, higher peak is possible in the South China Sea around category 3-4 intensity.

The HAFS-A model is producing some incredible model outputs for #90W (Future #Typhoon #Fungwong). The model predicts that the TC will undergo explosive RI into the <900mb region, and maintain that intensity for ~24h or more. Google's DeepMind ensemble supports this.

Future #Typhoon #Fungwong is organizing east of the Philippines. The storm is unusually large, which may bring hazardous conditions to a larger area. The storm is expected to become quite powerful as it nears #Luzon.

#Typhoon #Fungwong is still a massive system, now steadily intensifying and barreling towards southern #Luzon #Philippines. The system will bring widespread rainfall, wind and surge. Do not take this storm lightly! Even a weaker Fung-wong will bring devastating hazards!

The Australian cyclone season may begin soon with the development of an invest north of the Tiwi islands. The system may develop into quite a strong cyclone, although much uncertainty remains in the track and intensity.

#TC5 has formed north of Australia, and forecast trends are showing a stronger system, farther west. Interests in Darwin should monitor the situation, as a major equivalent cyclone may pass through or near the city. This could be the 2nd ever C1 to strike the city! BE CAUTIOUS!

MODEL SPLIT: Newly designated #cyclone #FIVE has two distinct routes it can take, an eastern track with a weaker storm and landfall in the bushlands, or a westward track through the city of #DARWIN, possibly as a strong system. So far, models favor the WESTERN trend.

Something extraordinary is occuring in northern Australia: #cyclone #FINA has rapidly intensified, and posesses an upper echelon CDO, yet the eye is cloud filled - similar to #DELTA 2020. Fascinating case - shame we dont have recon! The eye is currently warming as shear lessened.

A TC rarity just occurred: #TC4 is the first ever tropical storm force system to form in the Malacca strait, near Malaysia. The system is forecast to make landfall soon, and its current intensity based on ASCAT is ~45kt. The TC is at a shocking 4.5N!
