Having a convo with my dentist about what I do for work and they ask if I know other languages. “Yes I know ASL.” Her response: “Yeah, but do you know any other LANGUAGES?” 🙄 Too many people out here that still think sign languages aren’t REAL languages 🤦‍♀️

Too many disability organizations remain silent on the disablement of Palestinians & the ongoing violence disabled Palestinians are experiencing. We must denounce unnecessary violence that causes disablement *and* demand support & care for those who will now live disabled lives.

Ableism should not be used to score cheap political points. We expect candidates to disagree and be critical of each other’s positions. Candidates making fun of one another due to disability or perceived disability is unacceptable. #Debates2024 #CripTheDebate

This extends to commentators as well. I’m seeing a lot of deep seated ableism rearing its ugly head from people who should know better.

Very appreciative of this piece. “Rather than only or mainly seeking to advance our careers — could our primary motivation in doing collaborative research be joy?”

Ohhh-kayyyy. I was on a Deaf Awareness panel at which a Teacher of the Deaf (TOD) made a claim that deaf children who don't have access to some degree of sound don't learn to read and write English proficiently. Let's debunk, shall we? 🧵

For World Deaf Day, the New England Aquarium, in collaboration with Atomic Hands, opened its doors wide for the deaf community—and WOW, did you all bust those doors down! Deaf kids had the incredible opportunity to see and chat with deaf marine biologists for the very first time!
