Finishing a phase one survey for a site over 100ha in size. 3 main badger setts. 17,000 steps in muddy fields. Safe to say my legs have had it 😭

Is it hilarious or bone-deep agonising that Defra has used a picture of a non-native species mixed with arable species when talking about grasslands? It's almost as if they have literally no idea what they are talking about.

After monitoring the same pond for 3 years and getting no positive results, this was a good surprise last night. Single female great crested newt found in the net! #ecology

Early season grass identification. (l-r) False oat-grass, rough meadow grass(🤔), sweet vernal grass and meadow foxtail. Torn between smooth meadow grass here, as lower leaves not particularly rough and stem leaf is short, but ligule is too long. #wildflowerID

First and worst bat survey of the season done ✅ Freezing cold, no bats, had to arrive an hour early to be inducted and had so many motorway diversions on the way home. 8+ hour round trip for nothing interesting 😭

Spot the grass snake 🐍 first one I’ve seen in ages and in the last place I’d expect to come across one (bang in the middle of a woodland)!
