Patrick O'Brien at the XIX World Economic History Congress, Paris 2022. Sharp as always, he will be 90 years old next month. Still teaching us all. His work on warfare and fiscal capacity was well ahead of its time (economics is now catching up). Worthy of a Nobel Prize if you ask me. He is an example to us all.

Stay tuned for the Friday XIX World Economic History Congress, Paris 2022 session on "Standards of living in Europeโs Global Empiresโ where I'll present comparative welfare ratios for Angola since 1760 (joint work w/ Hรฉlder Carvalhal).
