Really happy to be back @UR_ECW Uni of Roehampton, guest lecturing on Life as a Freelance Writer. Such a pleasure to share all the things I wish someone had known how to talk to me about, back when all this was so new — and to meet a lovely new cohort of Roehampton writers!

Getting into the mind of a character means understanding motivation significantly different from our own, finding the spark of empathy that means we can write them authentically, even when their point of view differs importantly for ours. Quite the week for it, really, isn’t it?
