This is thuggery from Trump and Vance, plain and simple. They are bullying the brave true patriot Zelensky into accepting a deal which effectively hands victory to Russia. Unless the UK and Europe step up, we are facing a betrayal of Ukraine.

If Trump’s vision is one where strength is wielded without principle, alliances are transactional, and power serves only itself, then the U.S. is not just withdrawing from the world—it is undermining the very rationale for its own global power.

The level of casuistry from JD Vance is extraordinary. Over the weekend, fresh from the Zelensky ambush, Trump was playing golf & Vance was skiing. Meanwhile British, French and European officials were working flat out to fix their mess & build a European proposal for guarantees.

But no European proposal appears to be enough. Because in the Vance view, even a US backstop, with no boots on the ground, seems to be pointless. And on Tues morning he decides to publicly trash contributors' "battlefield experience" and "military equipment". Diplomatic arson.
