When you're clear about the learning objectives and the different orders you're likely to be tested on in an exam, it is easier to identify what's relevant and what isn't when studying for it.

Grouping is a mega hack for learning. Making yourself group information forces your brain to operate at a higher level of efficiency. It takes effort to think about how we want to group it… ESPECIALLY since the groups we form are often not the same way it was taught.

How many of you do this kind of thinking while mapping? If you don't, give it a go. Your entire experience will change. Get the full breakdown by watching on my YouTube here: youtu.be/PfVZWaT4PM4 #learning #mindmap #education

Always group. Always. ESPECIALLY when it isn't obvious. Grouping is the key to better memory. Get the full breakdown by watching on my YouTube here: youtu.be/PfVZWaT4PM4 #learning #mindmap #education #study

Every #learning “technique” has an intended vs actual effect. When you INTEND a technique to achieve something, check if it ACTUALLY achieved it. Not catching discrepancies in this is a common reason #learners make the same mistakes, again and again.

Avoid the “illusion of learning”. This is when you do things that make you feel like you’re #learning when it isn’t effective. Re-reading your notes for the 5th time isn’t helping. Without removing the illusion of learning, you’ll never know what to improve.

As you #learn and grow, the gap widens between how you think vs. how you USED to/how your friends think. Where you used to see nothing, you now see problems. Where others see problems, you see opportunities. This gap can feel uncomfortable. But it’s part of #growth.

The wordier the notes you write, the less you’re probably thinking about what you’re writing. Think more, write less, learn more. #learning

If your plan to “turn things around” relies on waking up tomorrow with a level of focus and motivation you’ve never been able to maintain for more than a week before… you need a new plan.

Prioritisation is the most high leverage productivity skill you can master. There’s nothing more unproductive than wasting time. And there’s nothing that wastes more time than “productively” doing the wrong thing.

Too much to learn and not enough time? Spend less time learning. Counter-intuitively, working too hard and studying too long can make your performance worse. Just like how you have to spend money to make money, you have to spend time to make time. If your problem is that

I wish I’d realised 10 years earlier that seeing something as “black and white” is a red flag for overconfidence. There are very few things that are black and white and almost all the value in experience and expertise is in understanding the grey.
