It was an honour and deeply moving to be there for the funding announcement. #MBC is the most serious type of breast cancer and the only one you will die from. Stage and recurrence data will help make us visible in the sea of pink and drive better support, services & MBC outcomes

I'm incredibly proud of how BCNA listened to people with #MBC when we said we felt invisible. And of what we have jointly achieved in 18 months that contributed to this funding announcement: an MBC Issues Paper; Roundtable in Canberra; & Roadmap tinyurl.com/bdfajesy

Agree completly Dr. Kelly Shanahan These standards are a critically important step in setting expectations & highlighting urgent gaps in survivorship services for those with metastatic cancer. Now we just need to get them put into practice!

Thanks Janice Cowden! We're immensely proud of our Journal of Cancer Survivorship article highlighting importance of MBC support groups - which are underfunded yet desperately needed not just in Australia but internationally. Thanks to my amazing co-authors Grace Mackie, Fran Boyle she/her Sophie Lewis

Agree completely Janice. Nearly 9 years after my de novo #MBC diagnosis and having lost many friends to this incurable disease I too celebrate my cancer anniversary. I am very aware how lucky I am. I delight in being here and having the privilege of getting older 😊

Supportive care for #MBC is challenging: 'To improve quality of care provided to pts & minimise risk of professional burnout, greater attention is needed in supportive care guidelines to ethical, moral & emotional complexities experienced by professionals'. Great paper Marika!

Thank you! Incredibly proud of the consumers I've worked with to make this happen. mbcaction.org.au will drive much needed advocacy for those living with #MBC. We're Australia's 1st ever MBC-specific advocacy org and unapologetic in the urgency of our calls for action

More evidence for need to revisit how drugs get listed on PBS in Australia. So many inequities. Patients with life-limiting, incurable metastatic cancers often die before TGA approved drug gets onto PBS. For some rare cancers there’ll never be enough evidence to get listed.

Great point! Almost everyone who dies from breast cancer dies from metastatic breast cancer #MBC. But there’s such limited awareness of MBC. See BCNA media guidelines for great tips bcna-dxp.azureedge.net/media/t0qm2ax4…

One of the most impactful additions of our article (ascopubs.org/doi/pdfdirect/…) is undoubtedly the personal contributions of Dr Andrea Smith who, through her lived experience with metastatic cancer, provides powerful insights and recommendations to improve outcomes this population.
