Genuine question for my youth sports (specifically hockey) friends: When did tryouts move to end of the season/early summer? They were always just before the season started when I grew up. It makes no sense to me why you wouldn’t want kids to grow & develop & THEN asses them.

This is so incredibly accurate, especially with the *younger* pro athlete. Why would a 25yo who has never had to seriously train or focus on recovery because of their elite skillset have any real idea how/when/or why to do those things?

Town or “small organization” model (many places don’t have enough players for true town teams) doesn’t make any money. That is why most areas don’t do it the way Minnesota does.
