Great start @billshortenmp & Ministers 1,100 NDIS participants stuck in hospital for many months is a terrible waste of health resources during a pandemic Look forward to some evidence based joint solutions, better outcomes for #PWD and a stop to young people going to aged care

Great to see the issue of #NDIS participants stuck in hospital get the attention it deserves in the media this week. Over 1,430 NDIS participants sitting in hospital beds across Australia while there are over 1,000 vacancies in brand new disability housing

So very proud of Participant Led Videos - an evidence based approach to building the capacity of people with #Disability with cognitive and communications challenges to take charge of their lives and provide direction to disability support workers

New research from Summer Foundation shows getting #NDIS participants into appropriate housing can not only improve their health and well-being, but potentially reduce the overall cost of the NDIS. Di Winkler explains 👉pulse.ly/t5vuw432tx #DownTo10 #PWD #disability #SDA

State and territory housing ministers will meet Friday to consider a national accessible building standard. But while 3 out of 4 people with mobility problems can't find a suitable home, at least three states have already OPTED OUT. Read the article : buff.ly/3AgdUp2

Around 1,500 Australians with disabilities are waiting to be discharged from hospital because of NDIS delays. #abc730 Lauren Day #auspol

Summer Foundation was featured on abc730 last night, which shined a light on the issue of people who are stuck in hospital because of delays with #NDIS funding decisions. Australia demands better. Watch the full report here: pulse.ly/wdbfcemjmn Di Winkler Austin Health OT

2 years ago, Summer Foundation teamed up with Melbourne Disability Institute to create Building Better Homes Campaign and advocate for new homes to be built with improved #accessibility for all. On Friday, every state and territory (bar #NSW and #WA) decided to adopt such standards. A great win! 👏

Great to have Minister @billshortenmp leadership on getting people with disability out of hospital. Clear targets for NDIA timeframes are essential - they are absolutely achievable. Delegating authority to make decisions at the grassroots is smart - cuts through the red tape.

Thank you Minister Rebecca Vassarotti MLA for Kurrajong for agreeing to the National Construction Code, ensuring older #ACT residents have greater access to appropriate housing support, and the option to remain in their own home, rather than enter aged care.

The right housing has potential to improve the lives of people with #disability, especially those living in, or at risk of entering aged care. #APF2022 is an opportunity to discuss what we want the #NDIS to look like. Join us in person or online 👉 pulse.ly/ylf7w0o4e3

A study by La Trobe University and Summer Foundation explores the healthcare needs of people with #disability. A review of literature found that people with acquired neurological disabilities and complex needs were vulnerable to receiving suboptimal healthcare. pulse.ly/31n3xqq851

Young people in aged care is absolutely a solvable problem We have failed YPIRAC by not hitting 2022 targets Let's implement the #NDIA #health & #housing systems change to hit 2025 #YPIRAC targets to stop young people with #disability from being forced to live in once and for all

Earlier this week, the NDIS Commission released a report which shone a light on the multitude of serious issues that the 17,000 Australians with disability are facing in ‘group homes’. Summer Foundation's Di Winkler examined the findings: pulse.ly/fqqixifzqt

Shocking to read about the frequency of abuse and neglect in #disability group homes in Australia. Glad to publish an article in The Conversation - Australia + New Zealand about new models and solutions that have the potential to transform disability #housing.
