The Maiwand Lion is such an iconic symbol of Reading. For this to happen in somewhere so popular but also so ordinary is both surreal and tragic. I won't speculate on what has happened but thoughts go out to everyone affected

A number of people sustained injuries and were taken to hospital. A police cordon is in place in Forbury Gardens as officers investigate. We are asking the public to avoid the area at this time.
