1/2: I was extremely upset to hear about the death of the beloved soprano Mirella Freni. I would like to extend my condolences to her family, and to all the people who mourn the loss of one of opera’s truly great figures.

2/2: ...That the announcement in an Italian newspaper was accompanied by my own picture was startling & unnerving at first, but I understand that such mistakes happen without any intention or malice, and I’m grateful to the newspaper for publishing its correction soon afterwards.
