I've photographed the D.C. fireworks since 2004, and my favorite shoot was in 2009 when the National Park Service let me climb the Netherlands Carillon bell tower to shoot the show. What a great view!

The D.C. fireworks show this year was excellent because of the variety of colors and shapes produced by the shell bursts. Here's a sample that I photographed last night. Capital Weather Gang

My latest book is almost finished! I updated my D.C. snowstorm book I published in 1993. The book documents 30 winter storms that hit D.C. from 1888 to 2022. It's hardback, 8x11, with 214 color pages. I'm printing test copies now and hope to have it available by Labor Day.

If you're tired of D.C.'s heat and humidity, take a trip to the coast of Alaska. After ten days of cold, fog, and rain, I was ready to return to the heat. The scenery was beautiful; I caught plenty of salmon and saw more snow and ice than last winter.

Hammerhead worms are back this summer in my Oakton, Va. yard. We had a heavy thunderstorm yesterday which brought them from the grass to the driveway. This worm was about a foot long. Salt is the best way to kill them, but don't touch them. They burn the skin like a jellyfish.

For those of you who followed the Stumpy saga this year, I have good news! Stumpy's clippings are now growing into self-sustaining plants. Stumpy lives on! The National Arboretum gave me permission to use this photo in my "Remembering Stumpy" 2025 calendar.

Great Falls this morning at 7:39 am. The river is flowing well after recent rain. I used a 1 second exposure at f/22 and ISO 50 to soften and blur the water. Capital Weather Gang Great Falls Park
