#FacialHairFaceOff #AncestryHour My entry for facial hair face off. This is my GGrandfather George Rigby, iron works foreman, taken about 1905. Nicely presented moustache with some lovely upturns I think.

An early entry for tonight's #AncestryHour Had a ~3rd cousin DNA match come up last week. Worked out our MRCA and sent a message. My cousin came back to me today. She is 96 years young and has just started researching her family history. Fantastic!

Evening #AncestryHour, following on from my latest Pharos Tutors course, I spent the weekend looking for Stokesley Workhouse where my GGrandmother was born and her cousin spent 40 years as a "blind, imbecile", poor man. Now luxury flats.

Really enjoyed the talk by the excellent Tee at the York Family History monthly meeting last night. As promised, there was plenty of Victorian murder and mayhem, but also reflection on some of the lives of the urban poor in York. Thank you Tee.

#AncestryHour Some good news this week. Received notice that I've passed the Pharos Tutors Family History Skills and Strategies Intermediate Certificate course with a Distinction. Really enjoyed the ten courses making up the certificate.

Hi #AncestryHour I've not been here for a while as I'm been researching William Flint (1776-1832) who took part in a famous horse race in York in 1804, the first to feature a female jockey, Alicia Thornton. Contemporary accounts say 100,000 spectators were present. 1/

William Flint was my step-mum's 4th Great Grandfather and I've been working with her 3rd cousin on researching him and the wider family. Collaboration like this is one of the main reasons I enjoy family history #AncestryHour 2/

William won the race, but the story takes a darker turn involving unpaid bets, horse whipping, court cases, imprisonment, alcoholism and untimely death. He did find time to write a book #AncestryHour /4

We have also found information on a family Coat of Arms, which is a first for me. It may still be visible on a plaque in a local church. I'm currently looking to get access #AncestryHour /5 / end
