They weren’t lying. To all the SBC pastors and leaders who threatened, vilified, and mocked these (and other) survivors, now would be a good time to apologize. Repent, resign, and/or do whatever is in your power to bring reconciliation.

Those who shepherd the denomination should feel liable to protect sheep, not their institutional reputation. They have preferred the facade of all-is-well to the cries of the bleeding. Simple question: How would Jesus react between shepherding sheep or protecting power?

Lemme tell you how this works: all you have to do to thwart change in conservative Christian ranks is to frame it as a progressive takeover. “The liberals are coming! The liberals are coming! Woke alert!” When our fear of liberalism exceeds our fear of the Lord, our god is power.
