I can't tell whether Newsom is cynically pretending not to know what words mean, or if he sincerely doesn't know what words mean. If the former, he's treating his supporters as ignorant fools; if the latter, the Gov. of CA doesn't understand basic English. Both are bad options.

Hitching your wagon to whatever prevailing political/social/cultural fad happens to rule the day only ensures that, once the winds inevitably change, you will be revealed as either an irrelevant ideologue or a cynical huckster. Pursuing truth for its own sake is praiseworthy.

Absurd false equivalencies are the stock-in-trade of socialist/Marxist apologetics. Given historical reality, it can’t really be otherwise. The ideology must always triumph over historical fact, no matter how absurd the lengths or severe the contortions that are required.

Is arguing that Jaccob Slavin is the best defensive defenseman in the NHL—and that he should get way more respect than he does—political? (He is, he should, and it’s not.) Go Canes, and go Team USA 🇺🇸

Just a *filthy* goal to bring home the GOLD! 🥇🇺🇸 Huge congrats to the US women's team for a dominating Olympic run and a clutch performance on the biggest stage. Now let's see if the fellas can follow suit, starting with the semifinals tomorrow! 🇺🇸🦅

I laud the desire for nuance—but this analysis fails to recognize that prog. rhetoric increasingly tends to frame every issue as civil rights. Abortion? “Reproductive justice.” Energy (GND)? “Climate justice.” Rent control? “Housing justice.” Single-payer? “Health justice.” Etc.

Connor Hellebuyck is about to get a standing ovation in every American arena that the Jets visit this year. What an unbelievable performance.

Yesterday’s USA gold has occasioned some of the most wholesome content I’ve seen on this app—esp. these kinds of youth hockey reactions. Love of sport and love of country coincide to create a unifying patriotism. It’s beautiful. I love the USA. 🇺🇸

Jack Hughes GETS it—on so many levels. His postgame interview may be the best I’ve ever seen. Radiates unabashed patriotism, bursting w/ joy & gratitude, deflects praise to teammates, shows respect to opponent, spends zero time talking about himself. 🇺🇸

As a Canes fan, I almost wish this obvious Canadian cope was actually true. If puck possession and SOG were the *goal* of hockey, then #CarolinaCulture would be nearly unbeatable.😂 Sadly for the Canadians, the goal is to score the most goals. And the goalie is part of the team.
