I can't tell whether Newsom is cynically pretending not to know what words mean, or if he sincerely doesn't know what words mean. If the former, he's treating his supporters as ignorant fools; if the latter, the Gov. of CA doesn't understand basic English. Both are bad options.

This sentiment betrays a profound misunderstanding of both human nature and human civilization.

Hitching your wagon to whatever prevailing political/social/cultural fad happens to rule the day only ensures that, once the winds inevitably change, you will be revealed as either an irrelevant ideologue or a cynical huckster. Pursuing truth for its own sake is praiseworthy.

Absurd false equivalencies are the stock-in-trade of socialist/Marxist apologetics. Given historical reality, it can’t really be otherwise. The ideology must always triumph over historical fact, no matter how absurd the lengths or severe the contortions that are required.
