Students in Mr. Eason’s Electrical II class are diving into the study of electrical test equipment! Today, they conducted a hands-on continuity experiment using Ohm’s Law. By joining hands, they created a closed circuit, activating a tester that lit up. Ashe County High School

Mrs. Colvard’s Health Science students had a blast at Health Science Expo Day at Wilkes Community College last week! They explored a variety of health science programs through hands-on demos, cool presentations, & real-world experiences. Future healthcare heroes in the making!

Students in Mrs. Sturgill’s Foods I class enjoyed a fun & educational trip to Ashe County Cheese this week as part of their unit on dairy products. During the visit, they had the chance to sample a variety of delicious cheeses made right here in Ashe County!

ACHS senior Paige R. has served as the Northwest Region FFA President for North Carolina this past year. She & fellow ACHS FFA members (w/Nikki Eason, ACHS FFA Advisor) attended the NW Region FFA Rally at Wilkes Community College, where she passed the gavel to the new president.

Mrs. Sturgill’s Culinary II/III class took an interesting field trip to Driscoll’s Bake House in West Jefferson! Students got a behind-the-scenes look at sourdough bread making & starting a business from scratch, from owner & baker, Carolyn D. Lawson. It was food for thought!

ACHS FFA students with advisor Nikki Eason were a part of the grand opening of the new Ashe County Ag Campus & Livestock Center last Friday! FFA members showcased chicks, ducklings, & a favorite hen named “Angie.” It was a fun morning full of farm life & community spirit.

Mrs. Finley’s Apparel classes got colorful & creative with a tie-dye project! Students explored fibers, fabrics, & finishes while experimenting with vibrant dyes & rubber band techniques. This fun lab also gave them a first-hand look at how different textiles absorb color.

Congratulations to Ashe County High School seniors Robbie, Lila, & Tyler! They are leveling up their skills with advanced welding courses at Wilkes Community College. They recently represented WCC at the NC SkillsUSA competition & won 2nd place in welding fabrication. #asheproud

Culinary II/III students recently toured Apple Brandy Beef & the Stone Culinary Center at Wilkes Community College. Students learned about various beef cuts, pizza dough, & puff pastry techniques.Thanks to Shelmer Blackburn & Chefs Chuck & Celena Nilo for hosting our students!

This week has been extra special: Nat’l Teacher Appreciation Week AND Nat’l Nurses Week! We’re pleased to recognize the nurses at ACHS: Robin Goss, RN (School Nurse), Roxane Gilbert, RN (Health Science), & Megan Colvard, RN (Health Science). We’re so grateful they’re on our team!

Things are getting delicious in Mrs. Sturgill’s Culinary 3 class as they round out the school year! Jacob, Lily, Daniel, Tristan, & Greyson are mastering puff pastry dough, creating pastry cream, fruit purée, & whipping up sweet treats like cream puffs & eclairs.

Another spotlight in our Spring Intern Series! Junior Bryson Hart is getting hands-on experience at H3 Cattle Company in Crumpler, NC. Under guidance of owner Ryan Huffman, Bryson is learning about different types of agriculture, including the cattle industry & pumpkin production

Congrats to Senior Hayden G.! Hayden is the recipient of a $1000 scholarship from Ashe/Alleghany Homebuilders Association. A triple CTE completer, he plans to do a summer internship with Skyline/Skybest & then attend Wilkes Community College for Electrical Systems Technology.

The Teaching as a Profession Field Experience class visited App State for Future Teacher Day. They heard from the regional TOY, networked with current App students, toured the Reich College of Education, & explored the campus. They were happy to have this opportunity!

ACHS ‘23 grad Ty Little recently spoke at the Economic & Workforce Development Summit held at Caldwell Community College in Boone. Joining him was ACHS Electrical instructor Mr. Travis Eason. Both shared insights on the value of trades education & different pathways to success.

Ms. Wallace’s Aerospace Engineering class visited the Ashe County Airport to examine the world of aviation. Students are learning about economic impact of airports & careers available in the industry. Our local airport played a critical role in relief efforts following Helene.
