A REU (research experience for undergraduates) opportunity at Georgia State: chemistry.gsu.edu/research-exper…. Applications are due by April 10th. The 10-week program carries a $5,000 stipend and is a great opportunity to experience research at a world-renowned institution.

Alumni update this week on Andre' Lagoueyte (class of 21). Andre' is currently working at the CDC Division of Laboratory Sciences as an ORISE Fellow. His work focuses on measuring parathyroid hormones for early renal problem detection.

This semester, our Women in STEM Coke Scholars are learning about riparian restoration, water quality analysis, and stress response effects from environmental pollution. We enjoyed two weeks in the field at Reynolds Nature Preserve with Dr. Boudell, Dr. Dyer, and Dr. Klusza.

Shout-out in appreciation for our student workers in Chemistry and Physics. Our Learning Assistants Andrew, Raven, and Aliyah, (Afzal, Khoa, and Nyla not shown) and Lab Assistant Arya do such great work to keep the department going.

Student shoutout to Anthony Gideon, who took part in the University of Kansas' REU program last summer. Anthony presented a poster at the recent ACS meeting in San Diego titled "Toward Electron-rich Organometallics Featuring Polar pi-Conducting Hydrocarbon Scaffolds".

Today we celebrated the end of the semester (almost there!) and Dr. Musolf's retirement. What a wonderful day to spend with students, faculty, and staff. Thank you to everyone who came and ate.

Congratulations to Diana and Afzal, our chemistry award winners this year. They were presented with the CRC Freshman Chemistry Award (Diana) and Jim Braun Excellence in Chemistry award (Afzal) at the honors convocation ceremony.

Congratulations to our students who presented their research at the Student Success Celebration yesterday. It's great to see our students actively involved in research ranging from inorganic synthesis, spectroscopy, analytical chemistry, and pedagogy.

Congratulations to our own Lashaundra Fambro (lab manager) who won the Smith Award yesterday! She does an awesome job keeping our labs going and supporting our students.

Congratulations to our Spring 2022 graduates Afzal, Arya, Anthony, and Rohan! During the "glassware breaking ceremony" our graduates could finally get permission to break a few beakers and let off a little steam. Congrats to Afzal who was one of the student commencement speakers.

For many, summer is a time to rest and recharge. For several of our chemistry students, they're even busier. One of our students, Khoa Nguyen, is away at Georgia Southern participating in their CEMITURE REU program. Congrats Khoa and we look forward to hearing about your work.

Some of our chemistry majors are hard working this summer at their research experiences. Kelise (2nd from the right) is away at the University of Kentucky. Her project is titled: "Unsymmetrically Functionalized 2-isocyanoazulene and its Electron-rich Metal Complexes".

As we wrap up the summer and gear up for classes to start on Monday, we've been highlighting some activities of our majors this summer. Tram Nguyen was at Harvard Medical School for a summer REU working on a bioinformatics project. We are so proud of our chemistry students!

As we begin a new semester, we're happy to welcome Dr. Connor Wright to the chemistry & physics department. Dr. Wright earned his PhD from Univ. of Wisconsin- Madison in physical chemistry. He'll be teaching CHEM 1151, CHEM 1212, CHEM 1212L and CHEM 1211L this semester.
