Wow! That 2017 1st XI - Hartley, Lavelle, Aitchison all now county pros, but all those lads were seriously good cricketers. A joy to have coached them. Happy days.

Interesting listen, and illustrates the point that timed cricket in the Liverpool Comp is so important in developing spin bowlers. In most other leagues he'd have got 9 or 10 overs and then off. Please don't ever change that.

For those who attend my net sessions at the Ian Robinson sports centre on Wednesday evenings - just heard that they are closed tonight for emergency repairs, so we're off. I'll rearrange it.

🚳Retirement is a big deal - Laura Kenny is right. 🏆But only a select few get to bow out on their terms, having achieved success at the top level. 🤔Here's what we've learnt from years of walking alongside elite sportspeople going through retirement 👇 christiansinsport.org.uk/retire

Tonight I finished 10 weeks of coaching S&B Ladies since Christmas with a game against Formby, who I also coach. It's been a pleasure, and a good game at Dunes tonight. All the best of luck to both teams in the summer.

What an absolute pleasure to see Dennis Amiss again after 40 years. 50 Tests for England, Warwickshire legend and top man. Enjoyed hearing him speak at the WLCS Dinner tonight. Grateful for all his help and support back in the day.

Today was the first time I've been back to Merchants with a cricket team from Scarisbrick Hall. Lovely pre-match surprise to be presented with a 1st XI cap numbered 1 in recognition of my time there. Thanks Sam Cook for the kind words. It was good to see old friends again.

On Monday I asked 2 U12 boys to go to the canteen for the cricket teas. They returned without food. When questioned it transpired that they had asked for batting tees, describing small plastic cones to the kitchen lady, who said they didn't keep that sort of thing in the fridge!

First time we've put out a girls U9 team from Formby this morning. Here they are with the boys team after their matches. Thanks to S&B for hosting.

Very sad news. Roger was a great teacher and a man of integrity and straight talking honesty. He was a fantastic colleague and I counted him as a good friend. I'll miss him very much. RIP Rog.

Good luck to Ormskirk CC in the national final at Lord's today. Fantastic achievement to get there, hopefully capped off by lifting the trophy. Proud to see three former Merchant Taylors' players performing at the home of cricket - go well George L, George P, and Harvey.

How many from Hightown would agree with this?! Gordon Bryan - slept in the dressing room while his team batted, hardly spoke a word to anyone all year, vaped while fielding, refused to bat higher than 11, failed to turn up at all for one match. Team of the year my posterior!

Does anyone in cricket coaching have anything related to the old NCA proficiency awards which my father Peter Sutcliffe devised when he was NCA Director of Coaching in the 70s? I'm looking for the booklets for the 3 "tests" which children took. Please repost to any likely sources
