Height preferences evolved due to a selection pressure for women to prefer formidable men who can protect them Mate preferences are also geared towards the traits we want for our offspring. From a selfish gene's eye view, it is adaptive to have "sexy sons" Height also = status

Large scale study ( N = 60,058) examined height as a predictor of sexual history among heterosexual men. Limited variation in reported sex partner number across most of the height continuum, but that very short men report fewer partners than other men. digitalcommons.chapman.edu/psychology_art…

Good point, Sid. A big issue here is dischotomising and catastrophising. "Harder" becomes "impossible" "Prefer" becomes "Non negotiable necessity" "Typically think" becomes "All think, always" These are cognitive distortions that not only get in the way but ravage mental

Wow, people feeling like their partner “settled for them” and thinking that they would have preferred someone “better” is far more pervasive than I thought.

The notion of “settling” betrays a simplistic view of what a relationship is: we are not unchanging lego blocks with fixed interactions. A relationship is something you build. Why do you prefer your partner of 20 years over a supermodel? Because you’ve built 20 years of love!

Infant male circumcision, to me, is the clearest and most shocking example of double standards between the sexes. "iTs JuSt A SnIp!" is, of course, nonsense. Circumcision removes 30–50% of the total penile skin surface, most of the nerve endings, and the most sensitive part.

Finally, the anger around #incels, in the wake of the #Adolescence phenomenon, has subsided; and the outrage merchants who once so valiantly swung sword and shield, now rub their bleary eyes, and in a drunken, bewildered stupor, toddle off to find the next dragon to vanquish.

Since Tinder is releasing a height filter, I looked at my dating app simulation to see if adding or subtracting 5 inches from a guy’s height made a big difference in how women swiped. Link in replies

An analysis of ~100,000 academics finds that a small subset of academics generate majority of tweets. That vocal minority can skew how the public—and even journalists—infer “academic consensus,” potentially fueling false perceptions.
