Today our crew was alerted to a fire in the open in the Stickle Tarn area. They quickly requested assistance from wildfire crews based at Ambleside. We were able to locate the fire & with backup of arriving wildfire crews were able to prevent spread onto the wider fell #wildfires

Another fire in the open that had spread & threatened to ignite the surrounding area this morning. We used 2 x tanks of water on this in an attempt to bring it under control.

Huge thanks to Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service, the Westmorland and Furness Council Lake Wardens and the Lakes Rangers for their rapid response to this fire on Windermere. Everywhere is tinder dry, and the damage caused by an accidental fire may take decades to recover. Please - light no fires.

2 members of our crew were involved in a large wildfire on Windermere today. Whilst not directly involved with Coniston Fire Station, they each assisted in their day jobs with Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service Ulverston Fire Station Amber Watch, & Lake District Lakes Rangers #wildfires
