Showing creativity is great, but when players ignore instruction and team systems in effort to showcase their ability rather than play the right way, it affects everyone, some coaches address it while others just ignore it because of who the player is or it helps them get the W

You can tell a lot about the make up of a player when their on a 2-1 or the power play, low percentage shots, skating themselves out of real estate reluctant to pass or pass late, Those players are predictable and easy to check they expect the puck, but never want to work for it

If I ever get back into coaching or scouting, I will never recruit another kid that didn’t have an elite compete level. Here’s why. 🎙️ podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the…

It shouldn’t be overlooked that Jason Herter won his 3rd national championship. It’s hard to believe he hasn’t been hired as a head coach. Herter was a finalist at UND, but should be at the top of most lists. The way WMU and UMD won is a formula schools should be replicating.

In the closing moments of the Cup clinching win, Paul Maurice told his 4th line he was sending them out for the final shift of the game. “I want you 3 guys on the ice when we win this, because we’re down 2-0 against Toronto, and you got us here.” 🔥

Matthew Schaefer finished his interview on set with NHL Network, shook hands with the people at the desk. Then walked behind and shook hands with all the audio people and camera people as well. Small things are big things. Impressive young man.

For all the kids out there: If you have a skills coach - one of the best things you can do for your development is practice your skills AT HOME. The more you master your technical skills in the basement or driveway (stickhandling, shooting pucks…) the deeper you can get with

Sometimes highly touted prospects don’t always live up to their full billing or get surpassed by others based on work ethic, They soon learn what “other” players have experienced coming up through the ranks, Character and grit are still the ultimate separator at any level

Coaches aren’t chasing highlight players, they want the dogs who compete. Who finish. Who refuse to break. You think it’s just about talent? It’s not. It’s about habits. Effort. Mindset. Be the one who sets the tone, not folds under pressure. Compete like your spot depends on it!

Attacking with speed: 1. Area of the ice you never turn a puck over, middle ice {between the dots} at your blue line. 2. Quick counter attack by FLA. 3. Turn back/delay by FLAF63 for help. 4. Help arrives strong side. 5. 3rd F middle lane net drive for redirect goal.

FLAD5 rebound goal 1. Fluid Positions: Players aren't restricted to playing rigid positions allowing for dynamic movement and interchangeability.  2. Versatility: Players need to be adept at multiple roles capable of playing different roles in different areas of the ice surface.

COACHES: Remember that the student-athletes you work with are future moms, dads, wives, husbands, aunts, and uncles. The young person you work with now will be the future leaders and members of the community. You're doing more than just teaching the X's and O's.
