@commsnotprisons

We are here to demand #nonewprisons in Alabama. Our people deserve better than endless expansions of a violent, racist system of mass incarceration.

Private prison corporations are poised to rake in at least $2.6 billion in #Alabama tax dollars from Governor Kay Ivey's backroom deal. Imagine what that kind of money could do for our state if it wasn't being wasted on expanding mass incarceration? #nonewprisons

The new prisons proposed for #Alabama are supposedly meant to address overcrowding, but Alabama Department of Corrections admits that even the new prisons would be overcrowded on DAY ONE. We need to release people from our overcrowded prisons, not build new ones. #nonewprisons

One bank, Stifel, has yet to make a formal statement on their funding for CoreCivic’s prison construction project in Alabama. The other 2 banks, KeyBank and Barclays, have backed out of the deal- tell Stifel to do the same! #nofundingforprisons actionnetwork.org/letters/action…

Leslie Ogburn, a homeowner near the proposed prison site, and prisoner rights activist Rev. Kenny Glasgow, along with the state auditor and an Alabama legislator, have filed a lawsuit against Gov. Ivey for signing prison leases without proper approval. al.com/news/2021/04/a…

We asked Stifel's CEO and board to withdraw from facilitating the construction of massive new prisons in Alabama. Unfortunately, they still have not done so. We invite you to make that request alongside us by sending them an email using this link! actionnetwork.org/letters/action…

Gov. Ivey hasn't given up on new prisons. We have to get the word out to Alabamians across the state to contact their leaders and demand alternatives to more incarceration. Phone bank (every other Tuesday): signupgenius.com/go/10c0e49a4ae… Canvass: signupgenius.com/go/10c0e49a4ae…

The primary reason AL is facing a crisis in its prisons, a lawsuit from the DOJ, and a continuous cycle of Alabamians who have been destabilized is because the Legislature continues to ignore root causes of crime and violence. alabamasmartjustice.org/reports/2021-s… alabamasmartjustice.org/reports/2021-s…

We defeated the first plan and we'll take down every plan they throw at us because we deserve better than mass incarceration. Create more humane conditions within the prisons while decreasing the prison population. Now that's a plan worth funding! aldailynews.com/ivey-encourage…

Even the federal government knows that the state's recently approved plan for prison construction will not address the real issues of abuse and neglect within Alabama prisons. l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%… #NoMorePrisons #nonewprisons #AmericanRescuePlan #covidrelief

New prisons will not keep us safe, inside or outside of them. Think of how much good the ARP funds could do if allocated to schools, healthcare, housing, etc. Let's not waste them. mobile.twitter.com/nowthisnews/st… #nonewprisons #classroomsnotcages
