Ophiocordyceps curculionum, complex (on weevil). I think the fruitbodies are incomplete, the Field Museum guides show this group which grow on #Coleoptera, with red tips. I love how the mycelium has grown out of the body to tether the #weevil in place. #Fungi #Cordyceps

I spent ages figuring out how best to photograph specimens with only an average phone camera. This experiment with a black background resulted in an infected cockroach looking weird like it's floating through space. Not sure of the species. #Fungi #Cordyceps #TheLastOfUs

Nice to see a few Wood anemones (Anemone nemorosa) dotted around the woodland floor yesterday, Forge Valley Woods, North Yorkshire. #WildflowerHour #SignsOfSpring

Really enjoyed #WildIsles so don’t want to be negative but would love to have seen some of our spectacular grassland #fungi get a mention in tonight’s episode. #CHEGD

I think this is the Smoky Roundhead, Stropharia inuncta, growing in the ‘wild’ bit at the bottom of the garden. It’s dried out in these pics I took this morn, they looked different last night, wetter and with a slight visible ring on the stem. #fungi #faunaflorafunga

Verpa conica, Thimble morel and Morchella semilibera, Semi-free morel. Both in the same small patch of scrubby woodland on chalky/sandy soil. #fungi #morel #faunaflorafunga #spring

I think this is Toothwort, Lathraea squamaria. Found yesterday growing at a woodland edge. The woods are beautiful place to be right now full of amazing fungi, flora and fauna. #spring #ancientwoodland #wildflowerhour #FaunaFloraFunga

Nice walk around Talacre dunes this morning between the ⛈️ Pics of (I think!) common centaury, sea holly, common stork's-bill, bird's-foot trefoil, marasmius oreades and ma feet. #wildflowers #wildflowerhour #wales

First waxcaps of the year and a new species for me. I think these are Hygrocybe acutoconica, the Persistent Waxcap. Growing around sand dunes on the wet and windy west coast of #anglesey. #fungi #chegd

I'm very lucky to be able to join surveys in some high diversity grassland fungi sites. This species, I was only vaguely aware of prior, was the highlight of last week's visit. I think the current name is Pseudotricholoma metapodium, Mealy Meadowcap. #grasslands #fungi

Black magic!, Dermoloma magicum, fruiting again in the same spot as last year. Just the one patch this morning but it is 3 weeks earlier so maybe more to come. #CHEGD #grasslands #fungi
