Good stuff by the PSC. Hopefully other Police Officers don’t think it’s a good idea to replicate that Seun Kuti’s incident as quick pathways to promotion and then be disappointed when promotion doesn’t happen. Laws of unintended consequence
Will there ever be a time when the quality of life and all development indices will be roughly the same around the world? If so, how many decades or centuries are we away from this happening?
Means nothing. Trump attempted a coup in the US and there were people jubilating. You’d find pockets of celebrations in most take over of govt anywhere in the world cos hardly any govt is universally loved by its people. Using such celebrations as proof of legitimacy is obtuse
More like the tyranny of opportunities. And it’s not peculiar to Nigeria. A parent’s status plays a significant role in the opportunities that the kids get.
You don’t want successful coup plotters so close to home. They encourage copycats at home. The coups of the 1960s spread across the continent largely on the back of initial successes in a small number of states.
The era of “non interference” (a post colonial construct to safe guard colonial heritage) died couple of decades ago. Overtaken by “non indifference”. The latter applies when actions in a state may affect peace and development in others. Eg genocide, coups etc. Check AU charter
The absolute illiteracy masquerading as reasoned opinion about ECOWAS and Niger is staggering. This is not the first coup that ECOWAS will strongly oppose. It’s a cardinal position of ECOWAS and AU for a long time to oppose coups in member states. Why should Niger be different?
Ideally only civilians with no military background should be Minister of Defence. It entrenches the subordination of military to civilian authority. That’s what plays out in many democracies. Eg US Presidents need special Congress approval to appoint a rtd soldier as Defense Sec
You make an argument for the evolution of Fuji. But somehow other genres are not supposed to evolve? If the styles of Pasuma etc led to the evolution of Fuji, why should that of Àṣàkẹ́ not be considered as part of the evolution of Afrobeats rather than stating that it’s Fuji?
