November is a time of contemplation. At the start of the month we remember all the saints, followed by All Souls on 2nd November. In school we will take time to remember those who have been special in our lives. We will remember those names in liturgy at the end of the month.

The world around is is getting quieter, the evenings are darker and the trees are bare. Nature is resting, and with that rest we contemplate and we prepare for Spring and new life. The bare trees remind us of the cycle of life, and how we all need to take some quiet time.

This Sunday was the feast of 'Christ the King'. What does this mean? Jesus taught about the Kingdom of God, and in his parables gave us a glimpse of how things could be. So, for us, the message is to follow his way, and try to live a life based on his teachings.

This week saw the beginning of Advent. There are 4 Sundays in Advent and they are a preparation on our journey to Christmas. The theme of advent can be called 'Waiting'.

With the beginning of Advent, we have the beginning of a new Church Year (true, the Church calendar doesn't match the calendar we're used to) This year, the Gospel readings will be mostly from Matthew. We are told he was Jewish, and his Gospel is full of Old Testament references

In the first week of Advent we light one candle on the Wreath. Each Sunday we add another lit candle, symbolising how we are closer to the birth of Jesus, the Light of the World.

As we head towards our Christmas exams in a few weeks, it can be hard to start studying. Sometimes, the worry about a task takes up so much more energy than the task itself. Wishing blessings on all students as they prepare for their exams!

We all have times when we need to talk - we all have times when we need to lean on someone for support. Sometimes, we are privileged to be the person that others look to for support. It's good to talk.

The first reading today is from the Prophet Isaiah. He tells the people of "A voice that calls in the wilderness, prepare the way of the Lord" This voice would be John the Baptist, and each year we remember his words as we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus

Sometimes a change in perspective can bring us a healthier outlook. The Roman Philosophers had the outlook that there was neither good not bad - but thinking one way or another affected us most. So for today - try to count your blessings, the things in your life that are good.

Today is the feast of the Immaculate Conception. Pope Francis says: "We have need of your immaculate heart. To love freely... seeking the good in each other"

It might be cold outside, but a good long walk can be a great thing to lift your mood. Regular exercise is good for you, physically and mentally.
