First #ESHE2024 talk by Philipp Gunz on #floresiensis endocast. Fab new datasets & methods: LB1 #LunateSulcus & #BrocasArea NOT derived… in fact, more primitive than Homo erectus. LB1 not ab island dwarf #Herectus

Martin Haeusler on WT 15000 -major discrepancies in body size estmations (from 141-164 cm!)- whole body size by team: 153-154 cm; no major paths except L4/L5 trauma/hernia (the boy had sciatica 😞); axial skel- 9.4 yr-old, femur length - 14.8 yr-old. Discussion of heterochrony 😊

@clementzanolli on wether #naledi is a relict australopithecine. Basics: >1680 fossils, 139-148 cm tall, 33-43 kg, 465-610 cc. Multiple GMM analyses - post & sag profile, prognathism, max shape, EDJ shape (& other!): closest PARANTHROPUS 😳 #ESHE2024

Clément Zanolli at #ESHE2024 reporting on analyses whether Homo naledi could represent relict australopithecines - this will surely interest many people & ruffle some feathers. His conclusion: they might fit better with Paranthropus and Australopithecus! #anthropology #evolution

Revising the cephalopelvic fit in primates by @LiaBetti - new data, new models (emphasis on “face first” birth in non-human primates) humans NOT unique at having a tight fit!! Apes off ones out at loose fit 😁 #ESHE2024

Thanks to the folks who attended my talk and provided such a good feedback! I am ready to further explore alternative approaches on these growth trajectories to disentangle the adult morphology of this intriguing hominin! #ESHE2024

Thanks to #ESHE2024 to give me the chance of providing new insights on Neandertsal semicircular canal evolution! And thanks to all the colleagues at Bioacústica evolutiva for the great support! Keep it going with more #bonylabyrinths research!

Yesterday my dear friend @zarquon42b presented our work on statistical shape modelling applied to hominin pubis reconstruction at #ESHE2024 Lots of folks came and provided very interesting feedback and suggested further applicabilities of the method! Thank you!!!

Does the brain change during pregnancy? You bet it does. How about doing 26 MRI scans on a single person pre-conception to 2 years post-partum. WOW! Laura Pritschet and colleagues nailed it with their new paper in Nature Neuroscience. Key Points: - The authors point out that pregnancy

It looks great when it is completed but... The amount of work behind manual segmentation and post-processing should be mentioned more often in conferences. In my case this beautiful 3D model of the lumbopelvic system would not be possible without Dr. Guillermo Bravo

Our EEA (Environment of Evolutionary Adaptiveness) differs a lot from our current environment. Evolution causes adaptive changes, but is constantly 'catching up' to environmental changes - hence the idea that many mental health issues arise through this 'mismatch' to modernity
