#NationalMothWeek day 7! Today let's recognize the other moth life stages. One of my favorites is the colorful caterpillar of the Cecropia moth. Vibrant colors of blue, yellow, red and green! Stunning! Photo: M. Smith #MothWeek

Like miniature attack planes, these sleek Conopid flies—Physocephala tibialis—patrol the prairie. Males like this one, predictably, seek out food and females. The females, however, are hunting hosts for their parasitic larvae; in the case of this species, they’re after bumblebees

The funkiest little stabby jellybean: Parasa indetermina, a Stinging Rose Caterpillar Moth, with an impressive and beautiful arsenal of venomous barbs at their disposal.
