TARDEC has used the CATTB since the early 90's to further increase it's expertise in virtual prototyping, dynamics modeling and computational analysis. TACOM also designed a near-term active protection system concept for the CATTB and manufactured a mock-up for CATTB integration.

BRL developed long and short rod APFSDS and HEATFS as early as 1950. They were based on data collected on kinetic energy projectiles researched by Germany late in the war. The asset utilized for testing these new types of ammunition was a T30 Heavy at the BRL facility in Aberdeen

In December 1991, the Automotive Tilt Table, a hydraulically powered platform device, was completed. This new technology tilted wheeled and tracked vehicles to determine roll and pitch stability under a number of load conditions, in a controlled setting.

Apparently, TACOM had some issues when designing the CATTB's gun trunnion area, because the 140mm gun tube, had a firing load peak of 375,000 lbs. Utilizing my wip CATTB model, it is evident that the gun bore exceeds the dimensions expected of a 120mm gun tube. M1A2 GODZILLAX

A second-generation FLIR, together with other HFM components, was installed on the Component Advanced Technology Test Bed (CATTB). Although the exact model is not specified, it is highly likely that the HUGHES Second Generation Tank Sight (SGTS) from the early 90s was used.

Unlike the XM291 gun, the XM360 is design optimized as a 120mm. - XM360 peak forces firing M829A3 < 65,000lbs - XM291 peak forces firing XM964 < 375,00lbs After increasing the XM291 maximum pressure, the 140mm muzzle energy was increased to 24.1 MJ.
