TOMÁŠ BAŤA died in a plane crash 90 years ago. Founder of one of the world’s biggest multinational manufacturers of footwear, Bata had factories around the world incl. East Tilbury. He was also known for providing housing to his workers and introducing prices ending in number 9.

The Bata Heritage Centre are saddened to hear the news of the passing of HRH Queen Elizabeth II. It is a day of great loss. May she rest in peace.

Open Day - 15 October 2022 Guided Walks All our walks have now sold out, even after adding an extra one. Regrettably we do not have sufficient volunteers to put on any more walks, which have proved to be very popular. Entry to our exhibition, displays and artefacts is free.

Yesterday we were pleased to welcome members of the Sikh community from Gravesend and Grays. They were taken on a guided walking tour on the Bata estate followed by a talk and presentation in the Library. So many Sikhs worked at the Bata factory over the years.
