It’s felt like a dark week. Global events compounded by persistent gloom and dense mist in the valleys. I’d forgotten the sun existed. But today, we rose above it. My goodness, what a reminder of the strength of light and sunshine. Climbing a mountain always helps 👌🏽💚⛰️

Yew and Juniper forest! Never seen a habitat like this, but it’s super cool to see such widespread areas of this mixed, scattered woodland type on hillsides and areas I’d call ‘ffridd’ if I was in Wales. Really cool. Any ideas on the history of this eco type in the Lake District?

An update from our Storm-petrel chicks in the Faroes! There are still fluffy chicks weeks away from fledging, but this beauty is very close, the chick hatching out on 14th September. Very thankful to Jens-kjeld for continuing the nest checks for us.
