Man goes biking, flips his bike, hits his head, gets knocked out and doesn't regain consciousness until sometime during the ambulance ride. Apple Watch detects the fall, autodials 911 with his location and EMS has him picked up and in the hospital in <30 minutes. Incredible.

100% agree - had this conversation today. Regardless of your interest in higher ed, “Competing Against Luck” (what) + “Choosing College” (how) are foundation for how to think. NOT just about “product” - personal life/growth/purchases, etc. Once you see JTBD - you can’t unsee.

This why I think JTBD is effective, it causes the team to slow down, dig deep, find causality, filter the crap and make the vague more concrete. It feels slow but it actually speeds up the process later.

This just feels gross. Would much rather see admissions offices using the thoughtful ideas from #ChoosingCollege and Bob Moesta & Michael B. Horn. Data & correlation do not necessarily equal causality. Full article: washingtonpost.com/business/2019/…

If you’ve ever been interested in JTBD, you should be following Ryan Singer to understand what JTBD practically looks like. Here’s a quick summary of his latest, tweet-length clarification. medium.com/@avr/rjs-on-jt…

“But the cultural tides are strong. Building a company on Django in 2020 seems like the equivalent of driving a PT Cruiser and blasting Faith Hill’s “Breathe” on a CD while your friends are listening to The Weeknd in their Teslas.” h/t nystudio107

So many people throw out JTBD as a strategy in product. I don’t see a lot of direction on what to listen for or next steps and outcomes. Katelyn Bourgoin 🧠 makes this so practical. The “triggers” and “emotional” aspects she highlights are the secret sauce. So good.
