Lightning goes both ways - down to strike the Earth and up towards space. Amazing photo of a red sprite above a storm, by Andreas Mogensen. Details, including gif: tinyurl.com/ycynckzr European Space Agency

Researchers monitor thunderstorms and its impacts on Earthโs atmosphere and climate. The Atmosphere-Space Interactions Monitor could improve our knowledge of dust storms, pollutants, forest fires, and volcanoes. Discover more International Space Station science: go.nasa.gov/3OPtMH6
It is moving day. ASIM ๐ฆ @asim.dk is going back to it's original location on the International Space Station's Columbus module. January 2022, ASIM ๐ฆ @asim.dk was temporarily moved out the way from the SDX to SDN location because of a new expirement, which has now completed.

โก๏ธ Back to its roots. The 'space storm hunter' ASIM moved to its original, preferred position on European Space Agency's Columbus module today. ๐ The relocation will give the ASIM ๐ฆ @asim.dk a wider field of view to monitor high energy events in Earthโs upper atmosphere. Its science could
On April 15, 2024, the ASIM ๐ฆ @asim.dk was relocated to its original position on the Columbus module on board of the International Space Station. ๐ธ We've got some exclusive post-relocation pics for you! ๐
Thunderstorm observations from International Space Station provide better data than satellites at higher orbits. Monitoring thunderstorms helps scientists evaluate their role in atmospheric dynamics and climate change. doi.org/10.1038/s41526โฆ
Starliners approach to International Space Station provided a great photo opportunity for the European Space Agency #Columbus module with STP-H7 and ASIM ๐ฆ @asim.dk on the exposed platform. ASIM ๐ฆ @asim.dk has been observing electromagnetic discharges in the upper atmosphere since Apr. 2018 and is still going ๐ช
Good catch, Matthew Dominick โก๏ธWhat do you think, Andreas Mogensen and ASIM ๐ฆ @asim.dk? ๐
First sprite ground capture over Denmark. ASIM ๐ฆ @asim.dk is a Danish led European Space Agency mission on International Space Station. We're happy to see beautiful ground images of these fascinating upper atmosphere discharges. dr.dk/nyheder/vejretโฆ
Despite the fact that ASIM ๐ฆ @asim.dk is still fully operational on International Space Station it already reached Danish Technical Museum for an event with Andreas Mogensen. Terma was the prime contractor for the Human Spaceflight mission with DTU and partners.
