Good design is the inclusion of business thinking. Great design craft isn’t just the execution, but the understanding. The understanding of the business objectives, user needs, & technical requirements. To hone it we conduct both generative & evaluative research (quant & qual).

Since we’re now in lockdown too, I have time to reflect: at the start of June I submitted my PhD thesis, and the start of July I started a new job after 6.5yrs with my former employer. Adjusting to being a full-time working mum has been hard, but I’m so proud.

Over the years the most common designer complaint has always been "No one listens" and "UX isn't a priority/understood", so I want to throw something controversial out there: Some of this is our doing. A quick(ish) thread on why and how to fix it 🧵 #uxdesign #design #ux

Oh how I wish more people understood this: stories don’t equal waterfall requirements 👏🏻 👏🏻

My hot take is that most of us have not adequately processed the trauma of the pandemic. And our sprawling, unprocessed trauma chews away at our brains in myriad ways that make us anxious about why we can’t seem to live our lives as instinctively or as joyously as we did in 2019.

Design isn't self-expression and it's not about what makes you feel good. It's about being obsessively curious about the people you're serving and doing the hard work to make things better for them.
