#DickensSociety23 is in full swing! A great paper from @drchrislouttit on how graphic novels do more than serve as intros to texts. They are better understood as creative redrawings of the boundaries of C19 fiction. Particularly enjoyed ‘The Esthers’ from ‘Olivia Twsit’!

As part of the ‘Decolonising Dickens’ roundtable, Christian Lehmann on Dickens’s engagement with the Elgin Marbles. Lehmann notes the route that Dickens would have taken through the museum to the marbles, passing displays of insects and Egyptian artefacts #DickensSociety23

I am so proud to have been awarded the The Dickens Society Partlow Prize at this year’s symposium. Back after a stateside tour of Dickens conferences. Highlights = being awarded the The Dickens Society’s Partlow Prize & teaching at The Dickens Project. However, nothing quite compares to my mum’s accolades, made all the more perfect by her minor misunderstanding about my life goals…

A reshuffle going on Royal Holloway Art & Culture! We are going from spring to summer (finally) as ‘Spring in the Alps’ is swapped for ‘A Highland Croft’, which is looking fantastic after some conservation work 👀

Just around the corner from my new flat 👀 Intrigued by the merging of multiple texts + specific ‘real’ London sites (blind beggar - where I happened to watch ⚽️ yesterday!) to create image of Vic London, maybe one for Lee Jackson!

I had such a wonderful time in Rochester and can’t wait to see many of the same faces at Birmingham this year. The Dickens Society Symposium is such a genuinely warm & welcoming corner of academic conferences. PhDs/ECRs - don’t forget to put in your Partlow Prize applications! 🏆
