1/ Today’s announcement from Ofgem will be worrying news for families across the country. The expected rise in the price cap is yet another consequence of the toxic legacy left by the previous government.

The humanitarian crisis in South Sudan is dire. In Juba, I pressed government ministers on the urgent need for unrestricted humanitarian access, action on gender-based violence and more investment in health and education. Progress to deliver elections this year is also vital.

Heartfelt condolences to those who lost their lives in the devastating flooding in Eastern Bangladesh, and to the millions affected. UK humanitarian assistance to Bangladesh this year will support more than 48,000 people affected by Cyclone Remal and flooding in Sylhet.

In South Sudan, 84% of girls over 15 are illiterate and just 8% go to secondary school. The UK-led Girls Education South Sudan programme has supported over 1.2m girls to access school. In Bentiu, I met schoolgirls to hear about how this programme has transformed their futures.

There was a fantastic atmosphere at the “family fun morning” at Courtside at Bury Knowle Park. Great to see the tennis courts now properly sorted out, as well as mini golf, the cafe and above all, lots of local people enjoying the facilities 🎾 ⛳️ ☕️

The UK and SwitzerlandUN have called for the Security Council to meet on the humanitarian situation in Gaza tomorrow at 3pm. The UN has warned aid operations and staff in Gaza are at risk, at a time when a vaccine campaign is urgently needed to stop a polio outbreak.

Gaza is on the brink of a devastating polio outbreak, another deadly threat to people already facing dire sanitary conditions. Humanitarian workers must be able to work safely and carry out a vaccination campaign as quickly as possible.

Israel’s short-notice evacuation orders in Gaza are causing chaos. Palestinians and UN staff have no safe place to turn. We strongly welcome Israel’s agreement to pause military operations so World Health Organization (WHO) can deliver polio vaccines this weekend. Now we need to see this in action.

South Sudan shows the devastating impact of the climate crisis and conflict on some of the world’s most vulnerable people. Climate leadership is a key plank of this government’s work to rebuild Britain’s reputation on international development. telegraph.co.uk/global-health/…

Huge thanks to Pax Nindi and all the volunteers, partners, businesses and performers who made today’s Cowley Road Carnival such a success. It was wonderful to see a great time being had by all of Oxford’s communities. It’s *so* great you’re back Cowley Road Carnival 2024 - we’ve missed you!

I welcome the news that the polio vaccine campaign is underway in Gaza. UK funding to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative is supporting the delivery of this vital vaccine. It’s imperative that staff have sufficient time to continue vaccinating in safe conditions this week.

The humanitarian situation in Sudan is desperate and urgent, and this government is determined to act. Today I called on the two warring parties to ensure this damaging conflict ends now. Starvation must never be used as a weapon of war.
