Argument that people will simply not remit their money to SL and therefore not pay 15% is an issue about tax evasion. Evading taxes is illegal, it will be the job of the IRD to catch tax evaders. Just because people will find ways to evade doesn't mean an exemption should prevail

Sri Lankans want to fight corruption but will find every which way to evade taxes. From taking cash payments to under declaring asset sales and income. They don't want to pay taxes but want free public services. Until this mindset changes, reforms will be hard to sustain.

The attempt to pretend Gaza wasn't wiped from the face of the earth and its people butchered under the Biden-Harris administration is truly nauseating stuff.

when i was in cuba at the masjid in havana, when i asked them how many muslims there were in cuba the women i spoke with made sure to count the men imprisoned in the U.S.-run blacksite at GITMO. Cuba’s solidarity will always inspire me, people in the U.S. must stand with them

Of course the ACJU would open its doors to a known racist who intentionally peddled Islamophobic content at the height of anti-Muslim discrimination in Sri Lanka.

An average person who did something as incompetent as “accidentally cancelling Ebola prevention” wouldn’t be applauded, they’d be fired. Musk is failing up in this administration because he didn’t earn his job, he bought it. It’s corrupt, and risks Americans’ health and safety.

lankan eye-tee bros when they have to pay a bit of taxes that could actually fix the things they spend every day complaining very loudly about

hate the way "women's" books are marketed, my brilliant friend is about two teenagers in the 50's in a poor neighborhood in Naples and their coming of age parallels the start of the Years of Lead and memories of WWII, but I was told it was about the power of female friendship

Realistically Ramadan changes some people’s lives. They stop all their bad habits and sins for a month and sometimes that one month can help them realise that they don’t need to continue doing those things. I pray that this Ramadan helps us stick to our good deeds consistently.
