Big crowds in Iran today as people mark the 40th day since the death of #MahsaAmini. Thousands showed up in Saqez at Mahsa Amini’s burial site.

Six weeks in & Iran remains restive, angry & on edge. Massive crowds have poured out across the country to mark the 40th day since #MahsaAmini died. They have been met with an absolutely enormous security presence.

As protests continue in Iran 227 members of a 290 seat parliament have asked the judiciary to hand down expedited death sentences to people that have been arrest since anti-government demonstrations broke out in September.

UN Human Rights Council is holding a special emergency meeting session on Iran on 24 Nov to discuss the human rights situation. While this morning EU foreign ministers gathered to impose more sanctions on Iran “against the people responsible for repression of the demonstrators”

People in Iran have heeded calls for protests & strikes over the next 3 days. Most of the shops in Tehran’s grand bazaar were shut today. School girls marched on the sidewalks chanting ‘woman, life, freedom’ while people on the streets of Tehran chant ‘freedom freedom freedom’

Last night IRGC forces stormed Mahabad in Iran’s Kurdish region (same region #MahsaAmini was from) to quell protests. Internet & electricity was cut off in Mahabad last night. Situation across Iran continues to rapidly escalate everyday.

Iran is a football mad country. When the national team reaches a World Cup the nation works itself up to fever pitch. At Qatar 2022 however not many in Iran are supporting team Melli. Billboards of the team are burnt in cities nationwide. The mood is somber, the atmosphere tense

An IRGC assault in Iran’s Kurdish region continues. Security forces have been firing at protesters in Kurdish cities of Piranshahr & Javanrud. Videos show streets that look like battlefields. The sound of heavy gunfire can be heard as civilians run for cover.

The Islamic republic has executed two more young men today that were arrested during anti government protests in Iran. Four men involved in the recent prospers are known to have been executed so far in hasty, closed door trials.
