Things are getting grim for DC’s homeless services: DHS is saying it doesn’t have enough money to match people to housing vouchers for the rest of the year, according to an email sent to providers yesterday. To be clear: DC has vouchers to house people, but won’t use them.

She also alluded to some sort of "alternative" she's working on, though she didn't say where. Pretty much impossible to find an alternative for a place like Dupont Circle, though...

I asked Councilmember Zachary Parker about these discussions just now: He says the basic idea is to leave RFK money in the budget but then vote on a standalone bill this fall. He calls the mayor's attempts to force that July 15 deadline "disingenuous." Here are his full comments:

.CM Christina Henderson just introduced a bill to prohibit an expelled council member from serving again for 5 years as ex-CM Trayon White, charged with bribery, is currently running again for the Ward 8 seat. Would have to be ratified by voters as an amendment to the District charter.

This is exactly the question some neighbors are asking! As of now, Carter Barron does not seem to be part of these plans. But that's not set in stone, either...

We’ve got a growing protest at the corner of 14th and Constitution, near one of the entrances to the parade. It’s a mix of No Kings and pro-Palestine folks. Still a steady crowd of people heading into the parade area.

Brooke Pinto's "Peace DC" bill is coming up for a vote tomorrow. It's changed some since she first introduced, but the most controversial remaining element is the extension of last year's pretrial detention changes. lims.dccouncil.gov/Legislation/B2… That will surely attract some pushback:

A pretty damning review of the pretrial detention expansion by the Council's racial equity office. It says the policy disproportionately affects Black residents, but also finds no evidence that it decreases crime. In fact, it "can lead to increased crime." lims.dccouncil.gov/downloads/LIMS…
