Mponeng, the world's deepest shaft at 3 891m below datum, is located near Carletonville, 90km SW of Johannesburg. The operation mines the Ventersdorp Contact Reef using breast mining methods at depths of 3 160m to 3 740m. As of June 2023, its Life of Mine (LoM) is 7 years.
