Amazing :) Yet another reminder that YAHYA HASSAN, one of the most important poetry books of this century, is still without an English translation. I’ve got a full draft for any interested, courageous publisher.

“Translation, which is bilingualism in action, can bestow only dignity on languages; it knows nothing of shame.” A bilingual poet reflects on growing up with language shame in India and makes a powerful case for translation as dignity, not hierarchy. tinyurl.com/bdf8kpyd

New today! Vernon Duke's richly detailed memoir of a life in emigration and of a dual career in the “serious” and “popular” music worlds. New edition includes an Introduction by Boris Dralyuk as well as his translations of Duke's original poems. shorturl.at/X2G37

Artem Chekh’s Rock, Paper, Grenade is a novel about how masculine social dynamics can transform characters’ emotional lives. At a time when anti-queerness in the US reaches frightening extremes, this translation is crucial: tinyurl.com/28r24k6u

Lovely review of my translation of Mathias Énard's THE DESERTERS. Some mention of the translation would have been nice! All those English words were chosen by me...

Duke lapped up SoCal beach culture in the ‘60s! His take on the place is playful yet poignant, and utterly refreshing. I feel even the cut-rate Ginsbergs of Venice West would have appreciated this surprisingly sympathetic depiction of their squalid scene. Get the book!
