What is the disability price tag?

Jameisha here to explain...

There’s lots in the news about Personal Independence Payment (PIP). PIP is designed to offset the extra costs of disability. But it doesn’t cover what disabled people need to achieve an equal standard of living.

In what moral universe can this be the right thing to do: the lower the life expectancy of a local area in 2010-12, the greater the cuts to government funding in the subsequent years. Was this a deliberate policy to increase health inequalities?

Today is the 27th anniversary of the 1997 Labour Landslide that heralded the intro of the minimum wage, Surestart & the resurgence of the NHS. In a campaign never see the like of before by The Labour Party 1st woman & youngest ever General Secretary. So proud of her.

Analysis by NEF shows that HALF of local authorities are 'childcare deserts' (three or more 0-5yos for every available place)

Those local authorities are much more likely to also have high levels of deprivation

But this simply reflects the priorities of government policy... 🧵

I hate to say it but we need to be focussing on far more than just the fact that the DWP are targeting mental health with PIP and UC.

Mental health is something everyone feels passionately about but millions of disabled people are under attack. What about our mental health?

This is the key paragraph in the PIP Green Paper ... they know people can't afford to live on UC or wages ... they don't want people to be able to use PIP to live, as undermines drive to exploit people as workers in their shitty insecure economy for the benefit of capital.
